The effect of Elicited Emotion on Heart Rate Variability, Evaluating Mediator role of Personality Disorder

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of elicited emotion on heart rate variability (HRV) Through Personality Traits and Disorders in healthy men and women.
Method: In this study which was an experimental research, 62 subjects whose age range was 20-40 years, were participated voluntarily. according to some exclusion criteria such as substance abuse and chronic mental and physical illness; participations were put purposefully in experimental group. Experimental design of the study included four stages of HRV recording, that was included base line, Induced emotion of anger, induced emotion of sadness and fallow-up stage. Research instrument inclusive of, HRV Recorder, Two exciting emotion films and swap-200. In order to data analysis, Multi and univariate analysis of variance (Repeated measure) were assigned through between and within group.
Results: According to results of the study, antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcisstic, obsessive-compulsive and dependent personality disorders were revealed the most changes versus elicited emotion. After That, Avoidant, Schizoid, Paranoid and Schizotypal personality disorders Respectively, had the most changes.
Discussion: Due to the obtained results, Impulsivity and extraversionism traits in cluster b and Anxiety with super ego pathology in obsessive-compulsive and anxiety with fargality in dependent personality disorder led to the most changes versus elicited emotion.
